Last night I drove up to Brisbane to see one of my favourite bands, Bitter End. They’re a ‘Crossover Hardcore’ band from Texas and they hit hard like a hammer. I’ve wanted to see this band for a long time, and I never thought they’d tour Australia. I missed the chance to see them in LA last year with Ringworm and Nails by only a few days…but I wasn’t going to miss them again. Seriously, there are a handful of bands who exceed your expectations when playing live, Bitter End was one of these bands. If you like to bang, your head then do yourself and check out Bitter End.

If you don’t listen to the Cro-Mags, you should. If you’ve never heard of the Cro-Mags, do yourself a favour and listen to one of the most influential Hardcore Punk bands in the world. Hailing from the mean streets of the Lower East Side of New York City in the 1980′s, the Cro-Mags brought a metallic edge to Hardcore Punk at the time and have influenced hundreds of bands across the world. John Joseph, their lead singer is pretty much a living legend. He has written two books, The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon and Meat Is For Pussies, is active in numerous charity organisations and gives historical tours through the Lower East Side of New York City, talking to you about old live venues, the gangs and the musicians who’ve come of this now gentrified area. Like I said, check out the Cro-Mags!

OK, so, there has been a heap of stuff happening at Stacey Surfboards. We’ve been working hard on some rad things that will be dropping later this year, so keep your eyes peeled. There’s a new updated website in the works with updated information on all the latest models along with a catalogue to go with it. The website is going to look pretty mental, our design guy has been putting in the hours to make sure of it. I’m pretty amped on what is happening right now.

Over in the USA, the boys at Hurley organise a ‘ Rip My Shred My Stick Tour’ through Europe and the US every year. It’s always a success and a heap of fun. How’s this 5’4 x 19 3/8 x 2 3/8 SHOVEL HEAD with artwork by Stink? Rad huh?! If you’re interested in finding out more about this cool event, check out the link http://www.hurley.com/rmss/
We’ve been adding bits and pieces to the office over the last few weeks. Our original office was a tiny little room that was once used as a shaping bay – you can imagine what it was like with three guys, an accounts lady and two Australian Bulldog’s all getting cosy…it was by no means comfortable. Our new space is a dream and an awesome space to get work done. I think you’d all agree.

As always, we’re spinning tunes to get through the day. At the moment I’ve been really psyched on Twitching Tounges, a band out of Los Angeles, California. They play riff driven, metallic style of hardcore in the vein of Life Of Agony. I’ve also been really amped on Fire & Ice from Richmond, Virginia. Their new record ‘Not Of This Earth’ is really not of this earth. I thought their previous stuff was cool. This is next level.

We’ve got a few new models that are due for release later this year, and we are also in the middle of updating our website and catalogue, so hold tight for more information to come your way. It’s on its way!!! In the meantime, here are some shots of the new BOUNTY HUNTER. It’s been a board we’ve been working on for a while with Mitch Crews, Arashi Kaito and myself. There have been minor changes along the way and now it’s ready to hit the stores in the coming months.

The BOUNTY HUNTER is going to hunt down and destroy any wave that’s unlucky enough to get in its way. This board is an extension of the Guild model. It’s the board that sits perfectly between the Shovel Head and The Taxi. With it’s straighter hip-square tail outline you’re going to get a ton of bite through your turns. The BOUNTY HUNTER has a low, but straight entry rocker into a deep single concave with a slight vee out through tail. It’s easy paddling and easy to generate speed with plenty of manuerveability. Super flat deck. Ride this board at least too inches shorter than your high performance shortboard. This is going to be the board that Mitch Crews rides in whatever average conditions the WQS throws up at him. Get hunting…

The WCT’s most exciting and entertaining surfer, Matt Wilkinson, has dropped a new clip on his site, www.out2brunch.com goofing off on the mean streets of Bondi. This clip isn’t full of surfing, but check out from 2 minutes and 7 seconds and you won’t be disappointed. Wilko is destroying the Rincon section of Bells and another Victorian beach break on his Werewolf and Wolf. Both boards are 5’10 x 19 x 2 3/8. The Wolf has been slightly adjusted with a thumb tail, instead of the normal rounded pin.

WEREWOLF

“Hail, Hail, Hail, great wolf spirit, Hail! Within this circle I have made. Make me a werewolf strong and bold.” The WEREWOLF model came about from The WOLF model. It’s got a fast, neutral rocker with a large ‘sweet-spot’ to stand on. The WEREWOLF is the perfect all-rounder in conditions up to head high. With its flat deck, mid-boxy rails and medium rocker, The WEREWOLF is an easy transition from your WOLF or small wave board of choice. The Werewolf is going to reign supreme upon your local break.

WOLF

Join the Wolfpack. Be one of us. THE WOLF, with its long single to double concave, full forward outline and mid boxy rail was a long time in the making. It came about after Todd Prestige (former WCT competitor) and I were talking about riding shorter boards in small waves, but also being adaptable enough to crossover into waves with a little more consequence. Todd’s a taller guy, so an important factor to him was that the board had to have enough drive to hold through his rail turns and enough shape to fit into tight sections. THE WOLF has a flat rocker with a small flip at both ends, not to dissimilar from THE TWIST, but not so much tail rocker. A rounded pintail from one of my gun templates that has been shrunk down and widened. The front half of the board has enough width to carry you over flat sections when you lean forward on the wave. It also helps gives THE WOLF its shape and appearance. Ride this board a few inches shorter and a bit wider. THE WOLF is also available as a 5-fin set-up.
